Havaianas at Sculpture By The Sea

20th October - 6th November 2016
For the first time ever the general public will have the opportunity to contribute to an installation in Sculpture By The Sea, thanks to an entry in this year’s exhibition from Havaianas; Thong vs. Sandfly.

Working with local artist and Sculpture By The Sea (SxS) Decade Club member, Jane Gillings, the sculpture will be an ode to two of the greatest Australian opponents, the thong and the summer sandfly.
Created by Havaianas, the giant thong will measure 8.3 metres long by 3.6 metres wide and sit on Tamarama Beach. The sandflies will be made by Jane throughout the duration of the exhibition out of unwanted thongs donated by the general public.
SxS National Sponsorship Manager, Stuart Goff, said, “This is the first work in our 20-year history that people will be actually be able to contribute to.
“We’re really excited to partner with Havaianas and give the general public a new exhibition experience”.
Elle Turner, Aqueo Marketing Director, Havaianas exclusive distributor, said, “At Havaianas we love nothing more than the Aussie summer and the great outdoors.
“Sculpture By The Sea is one of those iconic outdoor Australian events that marks the beginning of the warmer weather and we’re incredibly proud to come onboard as both a supporter and an exhibitor in their 20th Anniversary year.
Nearly everyone has an old pair of Havaianas lying around the house. Instead of chucking them out, bring them down to the exhibition and be part of something special!
How to donate:
1. Come down to the giant thong on Tamarama Beach with a pair of old thongs you no longer want to keep
2. Sign your name on said thongs (markers will be provided)
3. Drop the thongs in the donation box
4. Watch the installation take shape before your very eyes!
5. Take a photo and don't forget to #sculpturebythesea #sxsbondi16 #sxsmoments, tag @havaianas_au and share!
